The 3 Big Categories of a Marketing Strategy

Monday is for Marketing

When you think about it, marketing has 3 major components:
  1. Branding/Communication - This include your brand story, your brand promise, and your brand identity. Then it includes how you communicate your brand, i.e. print, electronic, news releases, etc.
  2. Lead Generation - This is the stuff you do to generate new prospective customers. This marketing activity can consist of at least 110 different things (email us if you want a copy of 110 Different Ways to Market Your Business.) However, everything you do here should be tracked and measured!
  3. Relationship Management - This is sometimes referred to a "Business Development." However, I believe this includes managing your customer relationships as well as your prospect relationships, your referral source relationships, and your Strategic Alliance relationships.
A good marketing strategy should include these 3 big categories. How are you doing with Branding/Communication, Lead Generation, and Relationship Management? If you haven't already done so, take a piece of paper right now and write down your strategy in these 3 big categories. If you need it, a business coach can help you develop, document, implement, and measure your strategy!
