Business Growth Strategy: Grow Yourself as a Leader

leadership, small businessWe frequently write about business growth strategies that you can apply immediately in your business. We’ve already covered many things including marketing to existing customers and referral marketing.

Strategies to Grow Your Business

The first priority is to market to your current and past customers. This should be your first marketing strategy because these are the people who have already chosen to do business with you, and they are the ones who are most likely to do business with you in the future. Another strategy is to create a memorable, “wow” experience for your customers and prospects. The best companies in the world understand that what differentiates them from their competitors has less to do with their products or services and more to do with the way they treat people!

Grow Your Leadership and Grow Your Business

Today, we will learn about another strategy for business growth, growing yourself as a leader. Author and speaker John Maxwell talks about a concept that he calls “The Law of the Lid.” In his book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Maxwell states:
“Leadership ability is the lid that determines a person’s level of effectiveness. The lower an individual’s ability to lead, the lower the lid on his potential. The higher the leadership, the greater the effectiveness.”
If your business is “stuck” at a certain plateau, your stall is very likely a reflection of your leadership ability. In other words, you have probably hit your leadership lid. The good news is that we can raise our lid! However, we must first recognize our lid in order to raise it. Once recognized, we can then take steps to learn and grow ourselves as leaders. Leadership development is a core discipline for growing your business. It is fundamental to your success as an entrepreneur and business owner!
