Client Success Stories – Rand Wall

The transcript for this video testimonial is below: My name is Rand Wall, and I'm in the insurance business, Wall2Wall Insurance is what we call ourselves, and we do all kinds of insurance, but the main kind is working with corporations on their employee benefits, workers comp, and general liability. One of the things that surprised me the most when I started in the coaching was Glenn encouraged us to take an inventory of our day. And see what percent of our day we were spending on true business time where we were really effective in our business. And when I was honest with myself, and looked at the assessment, I knew I was being effective about 20% of my day. And that's when the light just came on. And I just made a commitment that I want to move that up to just 30%. And I really focused on my business. And I just tried to make sure I made 30% of my day truly effective. In one year of Glenn's coaching, I was up 50% growth in one year just by mainly taking my effectiveness at the office from 20% to 30%. Well, let me tell you one of the most interesting stories that happened in about the second year of coaching with Glenn. Obama was elected, I could see what was coming. I don't know why, but I could just see that national health care was heading toward me. And since that was the biggest part of my income, I was really down. So I called Glenn for one of our private sessions, I said let me buy you lunch, and I just laid out my problems and my fears of what I thought was coming. And Glenn had me read a book on scenario planning, and he worked with me, on what are my number one, my key assets, and I was so low I couldn't even see what they were he had to tell me. And then I read the book about scenario planning, and I started playing out scenarios, what if this bill passes, what if this kind of bill passes, and I got so prepared for the worst, that when the Affordable Care Act was passed in its current state, it wasn't the worst possible thing that could happen to me. And I was totally prepared for even worse than this, so this was like a relief to me. I decided that since it's the law, I would attack learning it. And that was all because of Glenn helping me with scenario planning, I knew I couldn't just put my head in the sand, and hope it went away. Here's another thing Glenn taught me: Hope is not a strategy.Tweet This So, I knew I had to have a strategy, so that strategy was to take my number one asset, my business assets, which was my list of clients, and then see what else I could do. Because I look at my clients as people that I genuinely want to help, I want to be like I'm on their board of directors, I am trying to help them achieve their goals. And if I help them achieve their goals, then low and behold I achieve mine. So, the scenario planning helped me be probably one of the most ready, the least down insurance agents when then Affordable Care Act did pass. I was ready and so was my partnership. I don't know how I could be where I am today had I not been in the first two year coaching and I stayed in the mastermind program, Strategic Mastery. It's where we come together with other business owners. So I see it like this. If you're a business owner out there, sometimes you feel like you're on an island. And in this case, I was able to bounce ideas I had off of other business owners, and learn things, get feedback on what I was thinking. Also, in business coaching, I don't know where I would be without it today. So, if I'm a business owner out there thinking about this, on the fence, I would say, you know what? You have so little to lose, to try it. And so much to gain if it works. And my guess is, it'll work for you maybe better than it did for me.
