referral marketingDo you have a Referral Marketing System? If not, you're making a big mistake! Referral Marketing is the practice of gaining new customers by obtaining support from your existing customer base and personal networks.

What Do You Believe?

To start, you must first believe that there are people out there who want your services or products as badly as you want their business. You must also believe that many of the customers you serve well will gladly help you any way they can. And not only will they help you, but others in your personal network will help you too, especially if you help them!

Where to Start

Begin by making a list of people who already know you or who already use your services or products. Think about your "circle of influence." Who do you know that already likes you and trusts you? Next, work on building and nurturing those relationships. Find ways to serve or bring value to these people. Remember, relationships first! Don't just try to "use" people without helping them too. Mutually beneficial relationships can last forever!

It Takes Time

Relationships take some time to build, so don't hurry this. Just make it a part of your ongoing business practice. As your relationships develop, talk about your business and ask them if they would be willing to help you. If they respond positively -- and I find that most will -- tell them specifically how they can help you. Give them some concrete action steps that they can take to either give you a referral, give you an introduction, give you a testimonial, or give you a combination of these. Make it easy and comfortable for them, and don't be afraid to ask! This is only the beginning. There is a lot more that you can do to create a powerful Referral Marketing System.
