How to Leverage Your Strengths

leverageI recently wrote about discovering your strengths. In that post, I said that it's not enough to simply know what your strengths are. You actually have to do something about it. Did you know that most business leaders today still do not know how to leverage their strengths? You can read all about it in Marcus Buckingham’s book, Go Put Your Strengths to Work.

Putting Your Strengths to Work

In fact, research conducted by the Gallup Organization in 2001 revealed that only 20% of us claimed to be able to put our strengths to work on a regular basis. More recent research reveals an even more sobering statistic: Most leaders spend only about 17% of their time playing to their strengths. Think about your own ability to leverage your strengths as a business owner. Ask yourself, “How much of my day do I spend playing to my strengths? What if I could learn to spend 80% of my time playing to my strengths? How would that change my business? My effectiveness? My bottom line?” This ability to use your strengths is a vitally important shift. In our Strategic Business Owners Process, we help leaders and managers learn to make this important shift! A Two Step Process

For now, let me start by saying that we follow a two-step process. We begin by identifying and eliminating the "clutter" that consumes most of your time and energy. For example, can you identify those low-priority, low-impact, low-value activities that you engage in daily? Next, you have to discover you strengths. Get crystal clear on what you are good at. These two steps are a major part of our coaching process. Contact us today to learn how we can help you discover your strengths and leverage them for maximum impact in your business.
