Increase Your Leadership Impact

Leadership Impact, Executive Coach, Houston, Sugar LandWhat we know for sure is that you have the leadership capacity to grow your business to where it is today.  What we don’t know is, “Do you have the leadership capacity to grow your business to where you want it to be?”

For your business to grow, you must grow as a leader!

I have found it helpful to think of leadership in terms of capacity or impact.  The greater your leadership capacity the larger you can grow your business.  When we get stuck at a certain “plateau,” it is typically because we have reached the limit of our current capacity.  Author and speaker John Maxwell calls this our “Leadership Lid.” In his excellent book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Maxwell explains the concept of the Lid.  He states, “Leadership ability is the lid that determines a person’s level of effectiveness.  The lower an individual’s ability to lead, the lower the lid on his potential.  The higher the leadership, the greater the effectiveness.”  The higher your leadership lid, the more impact you will have in your business. If your business is “stuck” at a certain plateau it is very likely to be a reflection of your leadership ability.  In other words, you have probably hit your leadership lid.  The good news is that we can raise our lid!  However, we must first recognize our lid.  Once recognized, we can then take steps to learn and grow ourselves as leaders.  This is a common area that an executive coach will help business owners and managers.

So ask yourself a few diagnostic questions:

  • What do I know for sure about my leadership capacity?
  • What evidence is there that I need to increase my leadership capacity?
  • What action am I going to take to raise my leadership lid?
